OLYMPUS // IT HAS IT ALL

I’ve always loved photography as a hobby, and I think that’s why I’m well and truly obsessed with Instagram.

But a hobby is all I ever thought it would be for me. However, over the last year it’s also become a large part of my job.

Up until a few months ago I embarrassingly just used my iPhone for all my work! including when I was creating content for other businesses… professional I know… Cringe. I was wanting to take my business to the next level and felt if I wanted to be taken seriously I needed to take my work seriously, so I started researching cameras that would work for the large array of things I use it for. My wish list was long and I was soon to find out somewhat challenging to find.

I needed a camera that had the quality of a DSLR (for content/product images) but was compact enough that it would fit into a small bag I take when traveling. Sometimes I feel you need to compromise on the quality when going for a more compact camera but I wasn’t prepared to do that. I wanted great video quality and something that performed really well in low light as a lot of events I go to have terrible lighting (thanks PR companies)

After much deliberation I decided on the OMD E-M5 MK II in all black body (obviously) and when I mean much deliberation I mean purchasing two, count it TWO cameras prior to this and returning them both (awkward). So after the long and tedious initial process, I’ve now had my Olympus for a number of months and have well and truly used it for everything I could possibly need it for – so I now feel I can give an informed review.

Not only are the internals and quality of the OMD E-M5 MK II top notch but the exterior is built strong and most importantly water resistant so even if I’m shooting in the rain in NYC or caught in a blizzard in New Zealand I can keep on snapping. I decided on two very different lenses to help with the fact that this little camera needed to be able to do everything my much demanding self needed!  The 12-40mm PRO Lens and a smaller more compact 17mm f/1.8 Lens. The 12-40mm PRO Lens does a ridiculously good job of taking content and product photos and for all you bloggers out there it gets the blurred background we are forever looking for in our photos just right! I would love to take this lens with me everywhere as it also takes the most beautiful landscape photos for travel however it’s a little large and heavy to be practical for that. This is where the more compact 17mm f/1.8 Lens shines. This little beauty came with me on all my travels over the past few months and was perfect for capturing video content. After using this camera for a few months straight I can honestly say it does everything I need with the quality I demand. I’m not saying it’s the only camera on the market that does all these things but it’s the only camera I found that did.
